ANTS

In Australia there about 3,000 known species of ants.

They are social insects from the same family as bees and wasps (Formicidae) and live as a colony in soil, wood and among rocks where they can be protected from the elements. Ants are foragers and scavengers, with a few species that are predators. Most people are familiar with ants as they are common in gardens, around buildings and when opportunity arises inside buildings.

There are a number of ant species that can become a nuisance for people, most often because they enter homes and other premises, in search of food and water, and sometimes harbourage (shelter). A few invasive species have been known to chew through electrical wiring. Some species may bite or sting, however in QLD these outdoor species are usually easily avoided (but when you’re camping, check your site carefully before rolling out your swag). Ants are more active in warmer weather and often become most problematic in buildings during the hottest summer period.

Our ant service includes:

  • species identification;
  • Inspection of premises for entry points and identification of any conditions conducive to ants;
  • consultation and information about the species and understanding what conditions might be encouraging ants into living working and play spaces and recommendations of non-chemical strategies you can implement; and
  • Treatment required to manage the problem species.

The main ants that cause issues in the places people live, learn, work and play are:

  • Argentine ants
  • Fire ants
  • Black house ants
  • Coastal brown ants
  • Green ants

We treat ants with a target specific bait that we determine based on the feeding habits of the species identified. The bait is distributed throughout the colony resulting in colony demise over a period of time. The time taken will depend on species and their feeding activity.

Effective bait treatments require warm dry weather when the ants are most active, so we schedule appointments based on the weather forecast for a dry sunny day.

Your Questions Answered

How much does an ant service cost?

Our prices start from $110 depending on the size of your property. For most species we can offer a 6 month warranty period where we will retreat if the same species returns within 6 months from the date of treatment.

If you have neighbours with the same ant problems, we can quote for doing more than one property during the same call out, making it more economical. With some species (especially the coastal brown ants), involving neighbouring properties will make the treatment effective for longer periods.

How much does a termite inspection cost?

The short answer is from $220. The time it will take to do the inspection is approximately 2 hours but will depend on the size of your property, the number of buildings and the type of construction. You can contact us for more information.
